Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) may not cover everything
Ben Munger • May 22, 2021

Something to be aware of is that not all insurances are created equal. Although Medigap insurance provides the flexibility you may need in order to see a wide array of doctors, there may be limits to what’s covered on your supplemental Medigap plan. The main thing to remember with Medigap insurance is that all claims must be considered “medically necessary” AND must meet the guidelines for Medicare coverage. In other words, if Medicare covers your claim then your Medigap plan will cover the remaining balance, minus any deductibles or copayments. If Medicare does not cover your claim then your Medigap plan will deny your claim as well. If you are unsure about what Medicare does and does not cover, there’s a great phone app that will outline this for you in an instant. This app is called “Medicare: What’s Covered”. With this simple app you can find out if a service or benefit is covered beforehand to prevent any denial of claims. In addition, you can always call our office if you have questions or concerns about what might or might not be covered with Medicare. See the blog titled Medicare Annual Physicals no longer considered “Medically Necessary” for more information about services that may not be covered by Medicare.
